Retinol is used and added into creams and serums to be applied on your skin. It is known that retinol increases the collagen production, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Your skin tone will also have great changes by getting an even skin tone reducing pigmentation patches. Although it can be great for the skin, using a retinol-based product could dry the top layer of the skin and make it flaky, for this reason it is best to moisturize and protect your skin properly.
Retinol can be present in a product at different concentrations and forms, they all, basically, do the same. Prescription formulas contain retinoic acid, while non-prescription products or over the counter, have an alternative ingredient called retinol that is a derivative of vitamin A, which is more gentle and does the same, but it may take longer to see the results on your skin. Unfortunately not all derivatives are as effective as retinol, and can be much weaker and less effective. You may want to know that when using retinol products you may experience peeling of the skin as a result of irritation of the skin and this is part of the process, and after two or three weeks your skin will tolerate the ingredient better (always ask your dermatologist or Doctor in case of severe irritation). In fact, retinols work on a deeper level enhancing collagen production and cell turn over and regeneration. Retinoids are good to maintain cell turnover, and improve fine lines over time, can improve overall color of the skin and dark spots, for this, consider a consistent use of 6 to 12 months. Use of microneedling and retinols are a great way to maintain and care for your skin, but remember you must stop using retinols before getting a microneedling or dermarolling treatment.
