Microneedling is performed with a FDA-approved electronic device and a micro needle that moves across the skin, making pinpoint punctures to create very minor micro-injuries, which in turn triggers the skin’s natural ability to repair itself when it goes through physical injury such as cuts, burns and other abrasions, forming new collagen as a resulting in a smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Microneedling is used to rejuvenate, reduce fine lines, expression lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, stretch marks, scars and acne scars. By persistently triggering this healing process, the body will keep repairing the skin incrementally and cumulatively, for this reason multiple sessions are often needed to achieve desired results. You might also want to maintain the collagen stimulation by returning for quarterly maintenance treatments. As we age, our body produces less collagen and elastin resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin and discoloration problems. Most common areas to get a microneedling treatment perfomerd is the face, but can also be used to restore and regenerate the skin on the neck, chest, hands and other parts of the body. DISCOMFORT AND RISKSMicroneedling can be uncomfortable (stinging sensation), particularly in areas of bony prominence and where the skin is thinner such as the neck, around the eyes and forehead. At the end of the procedure the skin will feel tight, dry, swollen, and sensitive to the touch. The sensitivity and redness will diminish within 24 hours. Other common short-term side effects are itching, pinpoint bleeding or bruising, scabbing, and darkening of the treated area. The skin may also look and feel like sandpaper for the first 2-7 days as the treated skin flakes off and is replaced by new tissue. Darkening or lightening of the skin usually fades within 6 months, but in rare cases, could be permanent. This reaction is more common in patients who are tan or who have darker skin tones. It can result or worsen when treated areas are exposed to the sun too soon following treatment. This risk can be minimized by avoiding sun exposure for 4 weeks before and after treatment and by adhering to pre and post treatment instructions. How to prepare for the procedure?Discontinue use of Retin A, Retinols, Vitamin A creams and other topic medications for 3-5 days before your microneedling treatment. POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS 1.
