Microneedling is performed with a FDA-approved electronic device and a micro needle that moves across the skin, making pinpoint punctures to create very minor micro-injuries, which in turn triggers the skin’s natural ability to repair itself when it goes through physical injury such as cuts, burns and other abrasions, forming new collagen as a resulting in a smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Microneedling is used to rejuvenate, reduce fine lines, expression lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, stretch marks, scars and acne scars. By persistently triggering this healing process, the body will keep repairing the skin incrementally and cumulatively, for this reason multiple sessions are often needed to achieve desired results. You might also want to maintain the collagen stimulation by returning for quarterly maintenance treatments. As we age, our body produces less collagen and elastin resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin and discoloration problems. Most common areas to get a microneedling treatment perfomerd is the face, but can also be used to restore and regenerate the skin on the neck, chest, hands and other parts of the body. DISCOMFORT AND RISKSMicroneedling can be uncomfortable (stinging sensation), particularly in areas of bony prominence and where the skin is thinner such as the neck, around the eyes and forehead. At the end of the procedure the skin will feel tight, dry, swollen, and sensitive to the touch. The sensitivity and redness will diminish within 24 hours. Other common short-term side effects are itching, pinpoint bleeding or bruising, scabbing, and darkening of the treated area. The skin may also look and feel like sandpaper for the first 2-7 days as the treated skin flakes off and is replaced by new tissue. Darkening or lightening of the skin usually fades within 6 months, but in rare cases, could be permanent. This reaction is more common in patients who are tan or who have darker skin tones. It can result or worsen when treated areas are exposed to the sun too soon following treatment. This risk can be minimized by avoiding sun exposure for 4 weeks before and after treatment and by adhering to pre and post treatment instructions. How to prepare for the procedure?Discontinue use of Retin A, Retinols, Vitamin A creams and other topic medications for 3-5 days before your microneedling treatment. POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS 1. No makeup for 12 hours following treatment. 2. Wash the face a few hours after treatment or before bed time. 3. Use gentle, oil free cleansers. 4. 12-72 hours post-treatment mineral makeup can be applied 5. Use hyaluronic acid serum. 6. Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 24 hours. No tanning beds. 6. SKIN CARE REGIMENWe want to share our personal favorite products for skincare. you are free to look for other options and tell us what works best for you! 1. Cleanser: Choose a cream based cleanser, these are mild and designed for dry, sensitive skin and have moisturizers built right in. Avoid gel and foaming cleansers as these can strip natural oils from your skin. If you have oily skin, dry winter air may not affect you as severely. You can use an oil cleanser to remove makeup and dissolve dirt without drying your skin. Try precleanse, and Intensive moisture cleanser by Dermalogica 2. Exfoliator: Change your physical exfoliator for a chemical one. Physical exfoliators that scrub the dead cell off can be too harsh for already vulnerable winter skin and result in damage or further dryness. Chemical exfoliators are a formula that uses alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), or enzymes that gently dissolve the top layer of dead skin and wash it away, this is a much gentle method for dry skin. Try the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution by The ordinary if you have experience with acids or the Gentle cream exfoliator by Dermalogica. 3. Toner: Apply moisturizing toners, there are many options for every skin type, this will add extra moisture and protection to your skin. Try the Multi active toner or Antioxidant hydramist by Dermalogica 4.Serums: If you haven’t yet, start applying serums with hyaluronic acid that will grab moisture and hold it into your skin’s surface delivering lasting hydration. Apply it before the moisturizer. Try Phyto replenish oil by Dermalogica 5. Eye cream: Fines lines can be formed easily when the skin is dry and dehydrated. Look for formulas that include collagen and elastin to fill out fine lines, peptides to support healthy tissue, and antioxidants for cell regeneration and also fight free radical damage. Try Intensive eye repair by Dermalogica 6. Face moisturizer: You may consider applying one that contains fatty acids, hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which will help skin lock in moisture and maintain its protective barrier. Try Barrier repair by Dermalogica and Cerave Skin renewing night cream. 7. SPF: Wear it everyday, even on cold, cloudy days, as there is significant reflection of UV rays that can easily cause sunburn, wrinkles and aging the skin. Try Super sensitive shield SPF 30 by Dermalogica 8. Lip balms: Cold weather may leave us with dry, chapped, or painfully cracked lips.Protect them by applying a rich, moisturizing balm to protect lips! Try Vaseline lip therapy, they have many options 9. Body moisturizer: Our whole body will be affected during the cold season, and even more the exposed areas, it is really important to have a rich in fatty lipids moisturizer (like shea butter) As a tip apply the lotion straight out of the shower while your skin is still damp to lock in moisture, a lotion with hyaluronic acid will be very helpful too. Try Cerave moisturizing lotion, or the Phyto replenish body oil and Body hydrating cream by Dermalogica. Always consult your dematologist before starting to use any product or if there is any allergic reaction, remember be informed at all times!
