Retinol is used and added into creams and serums to be applied on your skin. It is known that retinol increases the collagen production, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Your skin tone will also have great changes by getting an even skin tone reducing pigmentation patches. Although it can be great for the skin, using a retinol-based product could dry the top layer of the skin and make it flaky, for this reason it is best to moisturize and protect your skin properly.
Retinol can be present in a product at different concentrations and forms, they all, basically, do the same. Prescription formulas contain retinoic acid, while non-prescription products or over the counter, have an alternative ingredient called retinol that is a derivative of vitamin A, which is more gentle and does the same, but it may take longer to see the results on your skin. Unfortunately not all derivatives are as effective as retinol, and can be much weaker and less effective. You may want to know that when using retinol products you may experience peeling of the skin as a result of irritation of the skin and this is part of the process, and after two or three weeks your skin will tolerate the ingredient better (always ask your dermatologist or Doctor in case of severe irritation). In fact, retinols work on a deeper level enhancing collagen production and cell turn over and regeneration. Retinoids are good to maintain cell turnover, and improve fine lines over time, can improve overall color of the skin and dark spots, for this, consider a consistent use of 6 to 12 months. Use of microneedling and retinols are a great way to maintain and care for your skin, but remember you must stop using retinols before getting a microneedling or dermarolling treatment. Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid and L-ascorbic acid, is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin against free radicals. It is not produced by our body and the only way to obtain it is through supplements or your diet, commonly found on citrus fruits. Vitamin C has a bigger benefit when applied topically instead of taken orally, and it helps with tissue repair. The most known fact about vitamin c is that it helps with hyperpigmentation and brown spots, lightening the skin and giving an even tone, enhancing skin radiance. Antioxidant: Vitamin C protects the skin from damage caused by free radicals and environmental aggressors like UV rays and pollution. Antioxidants are powerful anti-aging agents that help in reduction of pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. Brightening: It has the property of inhibiting melanin production, lightening the skin by reducing dark spots, resulting in an even skin tone which results in a brighter and youthful complexion. Collagen production: Vitamin C promotes the production of collagen, encouraging healthy cell turnover and regeneration. It is good to apply it topically to potential thickening of the skin. The best way to use Vitamin C is as a serum before a moisturizer, applying it every morning. It may take about 6-8 weeks to see changes, so consistency is key. Esthemax has vitamin C cure ampules (buy here), an ampoule has higher concentration and can revitalize the skin by penetrating deeper levels of the skin, improving the sign of aging and skin conditions.
*If you have sensitive skin, first patch test to make sure there is no irritation. The largest amounts of it are found in your skin, connective tissue and eyes. Its main function is to retain water to keep your tissues well lubricated and moist. Hyaluronic acid is well known for its skin benefits, especially alleviating dry skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and speeding up wound healing. If your goal is to reduce facial wrinkles and moisturize your skin, using a hyaluronic acid serum can be a great idea. 1. Hydration: Hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin and binds water to skin cells, and is able to hold up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water. 2. HA is a powerful humectant: Hyaluronic acid acts as a humectant bringing moisture to the surface of your skin from the surrounding environment, providing lasting hydration for the skin. 3. Wound healing: Hyaluronic acid concentrations increase when there is damage in need of repair and helps wounds heal faster reducing the size of wounds and decreasing pain faster, also regulates inflammation levels and signals the body to build more blood vessels in the damaged area. Hyaluronic acid also has antibacterial properties, so it can help reduce the risk of infection when applied directly to open wounds. 4. Skin protection: Skin’s main function is to protect our body and is the top layer of the skin (the epidermis) the one that takes most of the outside damage. As we age, our skin starts losing its ability to protect us and everything from UV rays, to environmental pollution, to lifestyle choices cause damage that results in fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and drier skin. Hyaluronic Acid fortifies the skin’s natural barriers to help lock moisture in, helping to slow down the deterioration of the lipid barrier. 5. Tighter, firmer and smoother skin: As we age, collagen and elastin production slows down and the skin starts sagging. Hyaluronic Acid can't replace the elastin, but can help with the appearance of tightness, as can fill the skin with moisture by retaining water, tightening the overall complexion resulting in a more youthful and smooth appearance that you can see and feel. Studies suggest that hyaluronic acid can help boost collagen production in the human body. 6. Skin cell regeneration: As we age the cell turnover starts taking longer, and what used to be 28 days will take now around 90 days, with this our appearance changes. This process can't be sped up, but hyaluronic acid will help to promote skin cell regeneration by offering extra hydration and barrier protection to the skin.
