The secrets for the best skin yetYou may already have a preference when taking a bath, a shower or simply washing your face, but did you know that the temperature of the water can not only affect your skin, but also the efficiency of the products you buy? Hot waterWhile steaming hot baths and showers are super relaxing and help with sore muscles, and joint pain, it’s not the best practice for everyday skincare. Hot water can heighten the level of skin sensitivity after cleansing, and dry out your skin, stripping it of its natural oils, which can be especially unpleasant if you have dry skin. Now, if you have oily skin you may be thinking it will then work for you, but unfortunately, it is equally not the best, your skin’s response could be to produce more oil, leaving you with a shiny appearance as a result. Skin conditions where there is a defective skin barrier can be worsened by a hot shower, for example, eczema, psoriasis, acne, and rosacea. There are benefits of taking hot showers too, as mentioned before, soaking in hot water or taking steaming showers can relax muscles, reduce fatigue, relieve headaches, reduce anxiety and stress, alleviate nasal congestion, remove toxins from the skin, open the pores, and cleanses the skin. You can still enjoy a nice hot bath, just remember to not do this as your everyday routine. Cold waterNow, what about cold water? Cold water can act as an astringent, which are in simple words, water-based products used to clean the skin, tighten the pores and remove excess oil from the skin. Cold water is a great choice if you have puffy-looking skin that needs tightening, and it can be especially useful, around the eye area. Splashing cold water on your face can also wake you up, refresh your skin, and reduce the appearance of enlarged pores too. There are many benefits for taking a cold shower, and remember does not have to be freezing water, any temperature below 21-degrees is considered cold enough. To list a few perks, cold water stimulates the immune system, increases alertness, prevents colds, stimulates antidepressant hormones, speeds up metabolism, frees the mind, tightens the skin, and reduces hair loss. Lukewarm waterRegardless of the good benefits hot water and cold water have, balance is key, for this lukewarm water is ideal for every day. Also, most skincare products are tested or created with this ideal temperature in mind. Lukewarm water will ensure your cleanser has the right amount of foaming to remove enough dirt and makeup off your skin while balancing your natural oil production.
